Needed a place to get things done on my to do list and I’m glad I chose Backstory to do so! Ordering inside is open now and there were a few tables to sit at inside and many tables outside. The free wifi even reached to the outdoor tables! I ordered a caramel latte that was made with their house brown sugar caramel sauce and local milk. I asked for it a little less sweet but it wasn’t very sweet at all so next time I wouldn’t ask for that! There were a few pastry options and Mylk Labs oatmeal for food and you can see them roasting the coffee inside and can buy the bags of their coffee. They also have a rewards program for your purchases and they sell growlers of some drinks. Overall cute space and good vibes!

2023 update: original review still stands true. Really great coffee, environment, and staff! Original review: This is a fantastic place. They sell much more than delicious drinks and they have a great seating area outside that does have a fire roaring much of the time. The staff has always been so friendly and there is a reward system that gives you points to use. If you like coffee, you need to try this place!

A nice bright and citrusy cup of light roast drip. A nice quiet space with excellent natural light and a chill atmosphere on the day of my visit. Unfortunately, there is no self-service sugar or cream if you’re a vile heathen like me who puts said substances in ones own drip coffee.

I love this coffee shop! Their beans are always so fresh and delicious (I grind at home and use in my espresso maker). The staff is so friendly and I love the fresh ingredients they use in-store.

What an amazing place, especially the people. I was meeting with my colleagues here when they were taking pictures of their new summer drinks. They asked us to hold the drinks and afterwards told us we could keep them!!! Their new drinks are both beautiful and tasted amazing!! Talk about being at the right place at the right time :) Thanks Backstory Coffee Roasters! Like the other reviews the chai is phenomenal here.

We became aware of this place when they opened their north loop location so decided to try their Saint Paul one and it’s super cute! The same great coffee. Most of the building is the roastery so not a great place to come work. 2 4-person tables 2 high top 2-person tables and 4 stools against the window. They do have an order window which I’m sure gets more utilization In the Summer months. Overall a great stop!

Such a cute coffee shop! I heard about how good their strawberry shortcake latte was so I had to try it. It definitely lived up to the hype. It was delicious iced and had a great strawberry taste without being too overpowering. I’ve also had their iced lemon bar latte which was delicious as well! Ordering is through their window outside or you can walk in and grab a table too. The best part about Backstory is all their syrups and sauces are house made! Overall loved my drinks and will definitely be coming back!

In the last 6 months I had a life changing health thing. Changed my life for the better in ways I can not even describe. I told myself as I could get around again I would visit 15 coffee coffee shops in 2-3 weeks. This place is amazing. Their coffee is top 3 I have ever had and I have traveled alot. The care they put into it is unmistakable. You can just tell. Their drip has so many flavors in it. It is next next level. Also they are smart enough to carry Viking Baked Goods. Those are the perfect companion for this coffee. It is so interesting to me so far that many places in the stp / minne area roast their own beans and follow it up with horrid baked goods. We are talking walmart level. Very weird. One last thing. Also I noticed that many shops in town carry BackStory coffee but the coffee at BackStory almost always tastes better. Not sure if it’s how they brew it or what? Anyways love this place and love how they get involved in the community.

I stopped in here last weekend to try their eggnog chai! It was pretty good, but I didn't get a whole lot of egg nog flavor. I've never had an egg nog chai before, but I do love a chai! However, I think I'd rather just chug eggnog straight in the future to get the full effect. The place was pretty chill and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. I sat at the island facing outside but they have a couple other low tops too. I imagine it gets a lot busier here in the summer as Minnesota isn't very kind to outdoor seating in the winter! They also had some cool maps to look at about where they source their coffee from and you can see a bit of their operation as well. I got the feeling that selling coffee beans is the core of the business and the coffee/cafe compliments it or maybe it's both. Anyways, it's always cool to see a coffee shop doing both the sourcing and making some delicious drinks!
